Planning for next year's events and bands has taken center stage here at Dart Music International. In the past few weeks we have been talking
with bands from Chile, Ireland, Argentina, Australia, Germany, the UK, New Zealand, Egypt, Hungary, Iran, and more. We've got lots of
cool events in the works for 2010 as well. And exciting new partnerships with organizations like
Grounded in Music and
The House of Songs. We'll be doing a couple of events in November and then starting out 2010 with a bang in January. Mark your
calendar for January 19 - we will be kicking off next year's monthly Dart Music International Embassy at the Parish with an event not be missed!
There are lots of ways to keep up with the very latest from Dart Music International. Our

Dart Music International is holding off on events until November but some of our friends are very busy this month.
Voodoo Cowboy and
Rare Magazine, along with
WOXY, are putting on a ground-breaking afterparty for the
Austin City Limits Festival on Friday and Saturday nights at the Seaholm Power Plant in Austin. The decommissioned Seaholm Power Plant
has been virtually out of reach for all Austinites since its construction in the 1950's. For years, the Art Deco building has held a great deal of mystery
to passersby due to its looming presence and restricted access. But things will change in October as Rare Magazine has been given the keys to the
Seaholm and will host the first large scale public event to take place at the power plant on the nights of October 2nd and 3rd.
After the final Friday and Saturday night ACL acts close, up to 4,000 people will be granted access to Seaholm at the
Live at Seaholm Afterfest, which will be the first
of many sorts. Headlining acts such as Broken Social Scene will take the stage at Seaholm, moving the music revelry from Zilker Park to the
smokestacks and lights of downtown. We'll see you there!
The House of Songs is the brainchild of Austin musician, film maker,
and Renaissance man
Troy Campbell. This brilliant songwriters exchange program is a one-year
partnership between a group of Danish songwriters guilds and songwriters and producers in Austin. In this program Scandinavian and American
artists will collaborate on new material and find new ways to distribute songs. The visiting songwriters will live and work in Austin for a few days
or weeks and team up with Austin musicians to expand horizons and songcraft.
The House of Songs Presents... is a unique
collaboration between Austin and Danish musicians. Please join us for the first of many concert events on Thursday, October 8th at
8:00pm at Threadgill's. The bill will include: Leaving a Small Town, Poul Krebs, Kristian Svenningsen, Troy Campbell, Kacy Crowley, and
Johnny Goudie with Special Guests.
We are looking forward to collaborating with The House of Songs on future events, and we will definitely be out at Threadgill's! Please see the
Facebook Event Page for more information and
to RSVP.
Grounded in Music was founded in 2007 with a mission to inspire underprivileged kids to turn to music as a career, a hobby, or an alternative to life
on the streets. They provide lessons in guitar, drums, keyboards and hip-hop/songwriting for children in grades 4-12, as well as music business
workshops and exposure to a wide variety of artists through their sound check series.
Dart Music International will begin an exciting new series of collaborations with Grounded In Music on Friday, November 20,
when renowned Australian singer-songwriter
Darren Hanlon visits the club to talk about songwriting, performing,
international travel, and whatever else comes up. We will have more details about the event soon.
Even though summer is just ending, we are beginning our planning cycle for the spring. For many of the international artists we help,
the spring festival season is a very important time to visit our part of the world. With such important regional and international events as
South by Southwest, the
New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, the
Kerrville Folk Festival,
Texas Rockfest, the
Houston International Festival,
Festival International de Louisiane, and the
Pachanga Latino Music Festival, there are plenty of incentives and opportunities for
bands to come to our region from March through May.
We have already added several exciting bands from all over the world, and are close to signing with several more. The bands we will be working
with next year range in styles from singer-songwriter to power-pop, country, psychedelic, rockabilly, metal, and good ol' rock & roll. Thus far
we have added
Capsula (Argentina/Spain),
Casino (Chile),
the Ganjas (Chile),
Darren Hanlon (Australia),
Intimate Stranger (Chile/UK),
Polly Mackey & the Pleasure Principle (UK),
The Tornado Roosters (Germany), and
We Should Be Dead (Ireland). Keep an eye on our
Artists Page for new additions and updates.
The logistics and planning involved take several months to put into place. That is why we are now accepting submissions from bands and
beginning the planning process for another eventful year. If your band is interested in coming here next spring, please see our
Artist Signup page for more information about our services and an application
form.
We are very pleased and proud to announce two new additions to the Dart Music International leadership team.
Valeri Marquart has joined our Board of Directors and
Victoria Corcoran has officially joined our
Advisory Board. Both of these talented ladies have been providing
us with invaluable assistance for quite some time. It is an honor to have them on Board.
Our Executive Director and Founder, Dave Dart, is one of Austin American Statesman's 2009
Fortunate 500. "Are the Fortunate 500 an elite class? Not in the traditional sense. The annual list of Austin's most social citizens is not defined
by money, power or family status. Anyone can be nominated by readers. We take each nomination seriously, looking carefully for social investment
and general accessibility... As in years past, the 2009 Fortunate 500 come from a multitude of backgrounds and represent the defining social activities
of Central Texas."
All of us at Dart Music International are profoundly grateful and humbled by the kindness of our friends and supporters out there. Thank you!
